His lecture, entitled

Last 30 July 2008, the AIM Policy Center, in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Embassy of the United States of America in the Philippines, hosted a lecture by Mr. Terrence O’ Brien, Deputy Director of the California Energy Commission. His lecture, entitled “Shaping California’s Energy Future: Protecting the Economy and the Environment,” presented how the California Energy Commission helped introduce reforms (e.g. appliance standard) and new policies (e.g. renewable portfolio standard, net metering) that have profoundly affected the efficiency and positive environmental impact of energy use in California state. The National Competitiveness Council (NCC) presented its first year’s accomplishment report and expects to keep on its proven track, buoyed up by reports from an independent international institute that the Philippines advanced by five notches in its competitiveness ranking against 54 other countries over the past year.
This NCC positive review was highlighted during the 2008 State of Philippine Competitiveness Conference, held at the SMX Convention Center on July 15 (Tuesday). The conference, organized by the AIM Policy Center and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, also featured the full presentation of the results of the world competitiveness ranking, and spotlight the creative industries as a vital key to sustain and improve the country’s competitiveness. PHILIPPINE CITIES COMPETITIVENESS 2007 NATIONAL PRESENTATION

Twenty-five cities that ranked at the top of three categories in a competitiveness survey conducted across the country were recognized in ceremonies held July 4 in Makati City.
The awards rites were the highlight of the presentation of the official results of the Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Program (PCCRP), a flagship research undertaking of the AIM Policy Center, which seeks to identify the best cities in the Philippines in which to live, work and operate a business. For its 2007 Round, the survey covered 90 cities, and rated them on the basis of the following competitiveness drivers: dynamism of local economy, cost of doing business, infrastructure, human resources and training, responsiveness of LGU to business needs and quality of life. "Meeting the Challenge of Rural-to-Urban Mobilization
and International Migration"

THP Chairman HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands visited the Philippines from June 3-4, 2008 in his capacity as chairman of The Hague Process on Refugees and Migration (THP). He has expressed the desire, while in the country, to meet for a dialogue-consultation with specific sectors related to the key programs of the THP.
One of the key programs of the THP is the Big Cities Initiative, which seeks to take up the issue of migration, mobility and inclusion in major urban areas across the globe. Under this initiative, the THP holds conferences and workshops to build awareness of the multiple ways in which refugees, migrants and other displaced persons add value to societies, and likewise seeks to gather the most innovative ideas regarding citizenship. The series of fora and consultations are preparatory to the “Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD)”, to be held in Manila in October 2008. Read more..>> |
